A Comprehensive Guide for Prospective NYSC Members on Camp Registration procedures

Are you a prospective corps member (PCM) that just got their NYSC Call-Up Letter and about to proceed to camp? Then this is for you. I know you are excited but also confused on what happens after you arrive at the NYSC orientation camp.

In this guide, I will walk you through what you should be expecting from the moment you arrive at the NYSC orientation camp until you complete your registration and receive your NYSC kits.

Arrival to the NYSC Orientation Camp

Make sure you start planning ahead as soon as possible so you can arrive camp early on your reporting day. Arriving early will allow you to have enough time to settle in and complete your own registration before it becomes crowdy.

Once you arrive, there will be NYSC officials at the gate to provide with instructions on registration . If you’re not sure of anything, don’t hesitate to ask questions from the NYSC officials, they are there to guide prospective corps members through the registration process.

Security Check at the NYSC Orientation Camp Gate

Before you will be allowed into the camp, security officers at the gate will check your bags for prohibited items.

Your NYSC Call-Up Letter will be checked as well to confirm that you are reporting to the correct orientation camp. If your letter is invalid or you report to the wrong camp, you will not be allowed to proceed until the issue is resolved.

To avoid getting delayed at the gate, keep your Call-Up Letter and other important documents somewhere at the top of your bag, where you can easily access them.

Accommodation

After leaving the gate, you will be directed to the accommodation area.

At most orientation camps, you will be given an accommodation code. You are to present this code at the accommodation stand, where the officials will record your details and assign you to a hostel.

You will be allocated a room based on the available bed spaces, so they might delay you a bit while preparing the list of rooms.

Once you receive your room details, settle in and keep your personal belongings safe.

Platoon Allocation

The next thing after settling in is platoon registration.

Every prospective corps member is assigned to a platoon. Look for your platoon registration stand and submit your document for verification.

After that, you will receive your meal ticket and proceed to collect your NYSC kits.

The kit usually include:

• Two white T-shirts
• Two pairs of white shorts
• One khaki shirt
• One pair of khaki trousers
• One NYSC cap
• One crested vest
• One NYSC belt
• One pair of jungle boots
• One pair of white canvas shoes
• NYSC socks and white socks

Check and ensure that all items in your kit are good and your size, otherwise, you can ask for a replacement or you can have them adjusted later.

Allowance Bank Account

The final stage is bank registration.

During your time at the orientation camp, you will be assigned to a bank used by the NYSC management in your state. This account will be used to receive your monthly allowance and other payments during your service year.

Even if you already have an account with the bank, you will  still be asked to open a new account for NYSC purposes. Instructions will be provided by the bank officials at the camp on how to open your new account.
