Hello Readers, In this article, I will share more light on Jamb and WAEC subject combination for Geology with Direct Entry Requirement. Firstly, What is Subject Combination? It is a list of subjects that include both compulsory and optional subjects. However, It is compulsory for a student to have a knowledge of the required subject combination for the course he or she wants to study in the institution.
Subject Combination is also a factor that denied students from studying their decided course in the university aside from not scoring the minimum cut-off mark of such course. Once you choose the wrong subject combination for Geology it is either you change to another course that goes along with the subject combination you’ve chosen or you wait for another year. However, for you to study Geology in any institution you must be a science student.
O’Level Geology Subject Combination. (WAEC or NECO)
Before obtaining the UTME form, you must have written or registered for any O’Level examination like WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB examination. A student willing to study this course “Geology” must have at least a minimum of five (5) credit in his or her O’Level result which includes:
- English
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- And any other Subject
JAMB Subject Combination for Geology
To become a graduate of Geology in any institution in Nigeria, Firstly, you have to participate in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination which is conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
This examination always comes up once a year and the subject combination for Geology are:
- Use Of English is compulsory.

Direct Entry Requirement for Geology
Nnamdi Azikiwe University accepts;
- ‘A’ Level passes in Geography, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics
- HND credit in Mining Engineering.
- ND credit in Biology/ Agricultural Science and Chemistry into 100 level.
University of Ilorin accepts;
- Three (3) ‘A’ Level passes including Chemistry, Physics plus any of Geology, Mathematics and Biology ONLY.
- ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry and Physics plus ‘O’ Level credit in Mathematics and Biology.
Ebonyi State University accepts;
- HND, ND upper credit and NCE merit respectively in the relevant programmes.
MAUTY accepts;
- IJMB/Two (2) A level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
- ND/HND in Geology and any other relevant field with lower credit.
Obafemi Awolowo University accepts;
- HD upper credit.
- Do not accept ‘A’ Level Geography
Federal University of Technology Minna accepts;
- NCE credit, ND/HND lower credit plus five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and any other Science subject and ‘O’ Level pass in Physics.
Delta State University accepts;
- At least two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics.
- Diploma in Mining or Applied Geology from recognized Polytechnic with upper credit may be considered.
Ajasin University, Akungba accepts:
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology.
- ND (Upper Credit) in Science, Engineering, GeoScience or any other relevant discipline.
- ND/HND (Upper credit) in Civil, Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Geology and other science or Engineering courses adjudged relevant by the Department also qualify for admission
- Does not accept ‘A’ Level in Geography.
Olabisi Onabajo University accepts;
- ND/Professional Certificate lower credit in Geology and Mining.
University of Jos accepts;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in the following subjects: Geology, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and/or
Geography. - HND in mining Engineering in addition to the UTME requirements.
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University accepts;
- ND/HND lower credit in any related Science subject.
University of Benin accepts;
- ND upper credit / HND lower credit in Science Laboratory Technology, Mining or other relevant programmes.
- NCE merit with ‘O’ Level credit pass in Biology or Chemistry.
- Do not accept ‘A’ Level Geography
Federal University of Technology Akure accepts;
- ND upper credit in Geology, Mineral Resources or Mining Engineering with a minimum of upper credit from recognized Polytechnic/Monotechnics and Colleges of Technology.
- ‘A’ Level good passes in at least two (2) Science subjects including Chemistry and Physics.
Ladoke Akintola University of Technology accepts;
- ‘A’ Level passes in Physics, and Mathematics
- ND upper credit/HND in Physics, Geology or Geosciences plus the UTME requirements.
University of Ibadan accepts;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Geography and any other Science subjects
- ND upper credit in Geology.
- Does not accept Geography as a UTME subject and HND in Mining Engineering
Obafemi Awolowo University accepts;
- ND upper credit in Geology
- Do not accept ‘A’ Level Geography
University of Osun accepts;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics.
- ND lower credit in Science Laboratory Technology.
University of Nigeria Nsukka accepts;
- ‘A’ Level passes or its equivalent in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
- ND upper credit or HND lower credit in Geology or Geological Technology for admission into a four (4) year programme in Geology or Geology/Physics in addition to the UTME requirements.
University of Calabar accepts;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes from Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry in addition to the UTME requirements.
- Does not accept ‘A’ Level passes in Geography and Biology.
Kwara State University accepts;
- HND lower credit in the relevant programmes.
Osun State University of Technology requires
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics and Mathematics or Geography
Federal University of Technology Owerri requires;
- At least two ‘A’ level passes not below Grade C in Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
- ND/HND at Upper Credit level in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology or Engineering.
- First Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Computer Science, or Engineering.
- Very good passes in three JUPEB subjects namely Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. It does not accept NCE. Candidates must in addition meet the ‘O’ Level requirements.
University of Lagos requires;
- ‘A’ level passes in the following JUPEB subjects: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, Candidates must have ‘O’ level credit pass in Biology.
Federal University Oye Ekiti requires;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology.
FUPRE requires;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Geography.
MAUTY requires;
- Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics and any one of Geography, Biology, Mining.
Federal University Lokoja requires;
- In addition to meeting the UTME Entry Requirements; 2 A’ Level Passes from Geology, Chemistry, Physics & Mathematics;
- IJMB minimum of 8 points with passes in relevant subjects;
- NCE Holders are not needed;
- ND upper credit in Geology, Mining Engineering, Mineral Resources & Geophysics;
- HND upper credit in Geology, Mining Engineering, Mineral Resources & Geophysics; Degree (Third Class) in Chemistry, Biology, Physics AND Mining Engineering & Chemical Engineering.
Ahmadu Bello University accepts;
- Two ‘A’ level/IJMB passes in Geology and any other science subject (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Botany, Zoology and Geography.
Federal University Lafia accepts;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics or Biology in addition to O’ Level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
River State University of Technology accepts;
- Admissions into Year III; HND (Upper Credit) in relevant discipline. Admissions into Year II;
- HND (Lower Credit) in relevant discipline.
- OND/ND (Upper Credit) in relevant discipline.
- HSC/GCE A/L passes in at least two (2) relevant subjects; in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics. In addition, all such candidates above must also satisfy the UME entry requirements
